Crime is your bread and butter in GangCity. It's the engine driving your entire career: every crime earns money and rank progress. But every attempt carries risk — fail, and you end up in prison. The art is finding the right balance between risk and reward, and switching up your actions smartly since each one has its own cooldown.
The solo crimes
You can commit a wide range of crimes on your own, each with its own risk profile:
- Crime — small jobs (stealing a wallet, snatching luggage, robbing a player). Lowest risk and the shortest cooldown; your starting point for quick, regular income.
- Extortion — shake down a florist, dry cleaner or betting shop. Pays more than small crimes, but takes longer.
- Robbery — shops and targets such as an armory or department store. Besides money, you can also loot bullets or energy here.
- Breaking in — from apartments to luxury villas and businesses. Available from a higher rank, with greater risk but a hefty payout (and sometimes a blueprint as a bonus).
- Plundering an account — a code-cracking minigame with increasing difficulty as you rise in rank.
- Street network — recruit runners who passively generate income for you; upgrade your network to manage more of them.
- Kidnapping — kidnap another player for ransom. You need a detective to find your target, and failing costs you time in prison.
Risk, energy and police attention
Three things to keep an eye on with every crime:
- Chance of getting caught — heavier crimes pay more, but the chance of getting caught is correspondingly higher. Get caught, and you go to prison.
- Energy — every attempt costs energy (even a failed one, though less). Run out of energy, and you need to refuel before you can continue.
- Police attention — keep spamming the same action, and heat builds up while your success chance drops. Switch it up and let the attention fade.
Tips
- Alternate between crime, extortion and vehicle theft so you never have to wait out a cooldown.
- Put your earned money in the bank — pocket cash can be stolen by others.
- Rise in rank to unlock heavier, more lucrative crimes.
