A witness report is persistent evidence of a successful murder. A random eligible player who was recently active may see the hit and receive a report naming the victim and the suspect. The evidence remains in play while the suspect is alive and can therefore lead to trading, revenge or another hit much later.
Where do you find your reports?
Manage your reports under Kill > Witness. This includes reports you witnessed yourself, bought through Obay or looted after another owner died. Each report shows the victim, suspect, source, status and the time you acquired it.
Keep, sell or publish
As the owner, you have three choices:
- Keep it: the report remains yours. Only released reports appear in the public cold case archive.
- Sell it: list the report on Obay with a minimum bid of $1,000. The buyer becomes its new owner and can then choose to keep, sell or publish it.
- Publish it: permanently release the report. The victim, suspect and publication time become visible to every player under Public cold cases on the Kill page. The report no longer has an owner and cannot be reclaimed, sold or made private again.
Publishing does not award money or another direct reward. It is a strategic choice: revealing the suspect to everyone gives other players information they can use for revenge, cooperation or a future hit.
Auctions without a bid
A report does not disappear when an auction ends without a bid. It is automatically listed again and its minimum bid is halved, with $1,000 as the floor. After a total of three auctions without a bid, the report is automatically published. It then enters the same cold case archive as a report voluntarily released by its owner.
Death, inactivity and the dead-man switch
- If the owner is murdered by another living player, the killer takes over their reports. If a report was on Obay, that auction ends and the highest bidder receives the reserved bid back.
- If a report identifies that killer as the suspect, the killer does not receive the evidence. The dead-man switch turns it into a system auction, preventing a suspect from taking possession of their own incriminating report through murder.
- An admin kill, a death without a valid living killer or at least fourteen days of inactivity sends the reports to a system auction. An active vacation period prevents the inactivity rule from applying too early.
- A new system auction lasts three hours, starts with a minimum bid of $1,000 and has no buy-now price. It is also published after three auctions without a bid.
What happens when the suspect dies?
As soon as the named suspect dies, the report is closed. An active auction ends and the highest bidder receives the bid back. A previously published report disappears from the active public cold case archive. A closed report cannot be sold or published again.
